Illuminating an enigma of the past, this is the provocative continuation of the irrefutable chronicle of Sally Hemings—Thomas Jefferson’s mistress, the mother of his children, and the slave he would never set free, even when the scandal nearly cost him the presidency. Epic in proportion yet rendered in exquisite detail, this controversial story begins in 1822, recounting the tale of Harriet Hemings, Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings’ beautiful and headstrong slave daughter. Harriet is allowed to run away from Monticello and pass for white, as Jefferson had promised Sally their children would be able to do. Experiencing the turbulent events leading up to the American Civil War, Harriet eventually finds herself thrust into the very heart of the Battle of Gettysburg. Astonishing in its depiction of American history, this is an authentic and classic account of love and color in the United States. Includes a new reader's guide written especially for this edition.

The President's Daughter is the heart warming story of an innocent young girl who became pregnant and gave birth to a child whose father happened to be the President of the United States. No. This is not a tawdry fable. This is fact. The President was Warren G. Harding who then died suddenly. Some say he was murdered. Her book is great. In Chapter 18 she describes how on July 30, 1917 she finally lost her virginity to the future president after a long courtship, in a New York City hotel on 30th Street overlooking Broadway. Only moments after the intercourse had been completed, the New York City Vice Squad broke down the door. Harding was forced to identify himself. When the police realized that their target, Warren G. Harding, was a United States Senator (he was not yet president), the Vice Squad apologized and beat a hasty retreat. It was not before long that Nan Britton discovered that she was pregnant. Senator Harding set her up in a house in Asbury Park, New Jersey near a casino where he sometimes played poker, and he sent her money through messengers. She was able to keep her pregnancy and the subsequent birth to her of an illegitimate child a secret from everybody, except for her actual lover who was US Senator and then President Warren G. Harding. The child, Elizabeth Ann, was born on October 22, 1919, not in a hospital but in the same house in Asbury Park NJ where Nan Britton had been staying. The resulting book, The President's Daughter, has a story all its own. Bills were introduced in the United States Congress to stop the publication of this book or to make possession of it illegal. The New York City Vice Squad raided the printing plant and confiscated all the plates. Nomajor, reputable book publisher would touch this book. All turned it down. Finally, the book was published. Naturally, as the book featured sex romps in the White House, it became a best seller.

One Good Knight with the President’s Daughter features a collision of indignant Ivy Leaguers with a crooked alumnus worth four billion dollars. The title refers to Joe Knight, the editor of a subversive campus paper, and Susannah Cameron, the university president's witty daughter who falls in love with him for his integrity and irreverence. The editor has lambasted the tycoon’s desire to donate a megabucks museum. In the midst of its rollicking comedy, the play confronts a serious question: What is the actual purpose of prestigious universities, when one of their richest alumni is regarded as a role model while in fact he is no better than a crook? The stage set should appeal to a director, actors, and audience for its compressed, creative use of space. The set consists of Joe’s dorm room—63 square feet crammed with a bed, desk, closet, and two chairs. (Joe has discovered that his room allows him only half the space required for felons in the state penitentiary.) Nine remarkably colorful characters wedge themselves inside his room. The comedy of their struggle is intensified amid the heap of tangled bodies while they deal with love, fraud, and the art of getting even. Ever more ingenious leverage is applied to the tycoon, who ends up endowing a two-million-dollar professorship for studying corruption in America.

Meg Powers is the daughter of the President of the United States. She's about to enter her first year of college. She's living through the worst year of her life. Last June Meg was kidnapped by terrorists – brutalized, starved, and left for dead. She was shackled in a deserted mine shaft and had to smash the bones in her own hand to escape. Meg Powers survived the unthinkable, the stuff of nightmares. Her terrorist captor is still at large. But still she must live each day. Ahead of her is the grueling physical therapy to heal her broken body; the challenge of leaving the safety of the White House for her freshman year at college. But harder still than the physical and social challenges ahead are her shattered sense of herself and her family. Will she ever forgive her mother, the President, for her "can not, have not and will not negotiate with terrorists" stance – even when it came to her own daughter? And more difficult still, can Meg forgive herself for having the strength, the intelligence and the wit to survive? In a brilliant novel, Ellen Emerson White tells her most ambitious and intense story about a most unlikely but deeply affecting heroine.
